For this project, Aturquesada, I staged several performances in Canada, Brazil, Chile, and Mexico, where I would barter objects painted in the turquoise colour in places where informal economic activities are present in daily life. Each performance would involve collections of objects responding to the context of each location. For instance, I sold Jesus statues to tourists on the beaches of Copacabana, Brazil; I gave away “tamales aturquesadas” to locals and sold them to tourists in the Zócalo in Mexico City; I sold a collection of painted fruits and vegetables in St. Jamestown in Toronto; and so on.
This video is a documentation of some of the performances.
